Ryan Walsh’s professional life changed because of severe weather.  Ryan began his career doing sports and he spent his first five years at WWLP as the Sports Director.   But when tornadoes struck on June 1, 2011 Ryan was thrust from the sports department into the news department and never looked back. Ryan is now a weekday news anchor and investigative reporter.

Ryan graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Broadcast Journalism from Syracuse University in May, 2002. While in Syracuse, Ryan began his broadcasting career as a news and sports producer at WSYR-TV, then WIXT-TV in Syracuse. In November of 2003, he landed at WIVT-TV in Binghamton, NY where he was a sports anchor/reporter for three years.

Ryan has won numerous Associated Press and Massachusetts Broadcaster Association awards for his investigative and sports coverage. Ryan was the first recipient of the Massachusetts Broadcasters Association “Above and Beyond Award” for his live coverage of the Black Friday gas explosion in Springfield’s Entertainment District.

Ryan grew up in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, about 20 minutes outside of Philadelphia.  Ryan is the youngest of three brothers, and he is ten years younger than his next closest sibling.
