Nava Ghalili
Nava Ghalili was one of the youngest news anchors in the history of American television. Of Iranian heritage, Nava was born in America and also raised in Australia. Her international upbringing led her to active involvement in efforts pertaining to social transformation. Nava has advocated for issues ranging from moral education to gender equality. She is also a consultant to multi-media agencies worldwide and an activist for education and human rights.
Nava has formal education in Commerce (Curtin University) in Australia and Journalism (Harvard University). She also holds a Master of Science in Comparative Politics (Middle East Conflict) from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Nava’s research both introduces and tests her new theories on a relationship between existing levels of human insecurity and subsequent acts of (what has been identified as) radical political Islamic terrorism.
Nava has tackled just about every job in the newsroom. She launched her career as a news anchor and multi-media journalist at the age of 19 after traveling the world as a motivational speaker since 13. She has worked at affiliates of CBS in the Midwest and FOX on the East Coast with stories airing nationally. The human-interest series Nava created, produced and hosted, Pay it Forward, was nominated for a Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award in 2012.
Nava is a human rights activist who frequently works with NGO’s aiming to tackle social injustice particularly those related to youth, women and education. She has spoken at more than a dozen international conferences and social and economic development forums. Some of the topics of her speaking engagements have included: how youth can move the world; mass media and our perception of truth; the hidden effects of gender inequality; turning socio-economic development initiatives into global movements; material and spiritual identities; parenting as a means to transform society; mass media and our image of sex, the consequences of a lack of moral education and the power of the arts.
